Claire Malaguti Officially Announces Her Candidacy for State Representative

Claire Malaguti, an Information Technology professional and Quality Control specialist, has announced her candidacy for the office of State Representative from the 30th Middlesex District.  This area includes voters in Reading (Precincts 2-5) and Woburn (Wards 2-6).

After graduating magna cum laude from the Questrom School of Business at Boston University, Claire worked for many years in senior management positions with such companies as EMC, Polaroid, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and at CVS Headquarters.  She plans to use her private sector experience to streamline government.

“My years of business experience have taught me to think clearly and strategically, get to the point and meet time-sensitive deadlines.  I will bring that clarity, quickness and efficiency to Beacon Hill.”

Claire will promote policies that help businesses thrive.  While growing up, she witnessed firsthand the vital impact that small businesses have on economic growth.  Her grandfather emigrated legally from Bologna, Italy. He started his own flourishing business, the Liberty Counter Company, which was responsible for the manufacture of shoe components.  The business was eventually transferred to Claire’s father and uncle who were long time employees.  Claire also has family business roots in Woburn through the Malatesta family, who owned and operated a convenience store by the name of Mal’s.

“Through them, I have seen the importance of service, the value of building a community and the significance of giving back.  It is in my makeup.  My political philosophy is that the best government is that which governs the least.  I believe that ‘We the People’ know what is best to ensure our own individual well-being; however, I am open and flexible to discussing and listening to opposing views and finding common ground.”

Claire sees herself as a “citizen-candidate” who is outside the current political bureaucracy.

“This status allows me to approach issues from different vantage points that are beyond the typical political perspective.   I can assess complex situations, without over-thinking matters to the point where the job at hand does not get accomplished.  Furthermore, I do not mince words!   I will always be honest and forthcoming.”

Claire has been politically involved throughout her adult life.   She served previously as Treasurer of the Stow Republican Town Committee, and recently was a candidate for Alderman from Ward 3 in Woburn.

“The latter experience really taught me the truth of the quote associated with Speaker Tip O’Neill: ‘All politics is local.’  When I ran for Alderman, I hit the pavement hard and knocked on all the doors that I could, and I listened to the concerns and issues that mattered most to the residents.  It was an invaluable experience whereby I learned so much from the people.  It was their zest and vigor that fueled me to seek out the 30th Middlesex District seat.  I am looking forward to forging a strong relationship with the residents of Reading and Woburn.

“I believe in streamlining bureaucracy, limiting government and keeping taxes low – while still providing essential services. As the State Representative for the 30th Middlesex District, I will restore fiscal balance and integrity to the State House. I will work to bring more local aid to Reading and Woburn in order to keep real estate taxes affordable for our families and seniors, and I will support funding for drug treatment programs to help combat the opioid crisis.  Additionally, I will increase transportation options for the elderly and champion policies that support a work-life balance for our citizens.  Above all, I will listen to the residents of Reading and Woburn and make sure their voices are heard at the State House.”
